Slightly off topic but I sure like Ting.com (MVNO). I have three phones with shared minutes/text/data. It's about $36/month (with tax) ($12 each) for 500 minutes & 1,000 texts (I'm not using any phone data, just WiFi). Ting sells usage based on levels, if you use more you pay more, use less pay less. Ting re-sells T-Mobile and Sprint (your choice). If you need data, Ting sells data at a good price too, but no unlimited shenanigans. Additionally, Ting actually appears to value and care about their customers! This seems so much better than working directly with the four carriers and you don't have to worry about their sneaky usage tricks mentioned in your article.

The T-Mobile plan you speak of is inclusive of fees and taxes. I have a T-Mobile family plan that charges me $80 for unlimited for 2 phones and the next 3 phones on my account are just $10 each. So that's $110 / month for 5 phones. There is a 4G cap of 2Gig / phone and then it slows down, but for us, this works fine.

It may be worthy of note that sprint has left a single free MVNO standing=> Cellnuvo.
It is a little odd while being ad supported like rp was, but via an Android only app, unlike rp.
We are using it to replace our rp services & it works well, have also used their porting & with the rush away from rp that was a little bumpy.
Of course YMMV - but worth looking at.
Also, lots of rp refugees have shown up at another forum to discuss needs & solutions, here:
